I can't believe I've been in Peru for over three weeks now. My time here has been so filled with journeys and activities, so I decided I might as well have a blog, I just have so many memories that I don't want to forget. So yes, this blog will be very much so out of chronological order, but I figured today would be a good day to start with as today was my first day working in the high school with Voces con Eco.
A bit about my project: Essentially, I am teaching high school students about environmental issues, organizational structure, and leadership, under the belief that everyone can be a leader for global change. The project will culminate with the students forming an environmental club at their school and initiating some project, such as a garden or park, that will better their community and have some positive environmental impact.
Teaching in Spanish is a challenge, but I am improving rapidly because, well, I have to. I'm so excited to work with these students, and also to share ideas and culture with them. Today we played a team-building exercise that I played when I first entered Georgia Tech, tan emocion de los estudiantes, I was quite happy.
We have been welcomed with open arms, open hearts, and open minds, and unending patience with our slight language barrier. I am so grateful, and so very happy. :)
